3 Questions to start a capsule wardrobe

What if I told you that you could have a wardrobe full of clothes you adore? In fact, you love them so much that getting dressed in the morning isn't just a necessity but actually something you look forward to? Sounds great, right?

Well, what I'm describing here is pretty much what a capsule wardrobe brings. Beautiful pieces you adore that are easy to put together and go.

What's not so easy with a capsule wardrobe though, is getting started.

To make it easier for you, I am going to take you step by step, releasing a new post every week guiding you through the process I have just been through while creating my capsule wardrobe.

The first step towards a capsule wardrobe is to reflect and ask yourself about your current wardrobe. So go grab a pen, get a notebook and let's do this!

Question 1- What body shape am I ?

Learning about my body shape has meant that I know what cuts look great on my figure, which has really made creating my capsule wardrobe a whole load easier.

I know now that sadly, due to my shape (a solid pear) I will never pull off an awesome mini skirt....so long to my dreams of being Brigitte Bardot 2.0!

However, I do know now that off the shoulder tops, midi and maxi skirts and defined waistlines are my thing.

Of course, fashion rules are made to be broken and so I don’t totally define my wardrobe by my body shape but knowing my shape has helped me to determine what goes in and what stays out of my wardrobe.

If you're unsure about what body shape you are, don't worry I will cover that, along with what your colouring in next weeks blog post!

Question 2-What do I wear a lot of and why is that?

This spot shirt has been in my wardrobe for years and I wear it as much now as I did when I bought it!

We all have those items in our wardrobes we adore, some of them we love so much they’re basically falling apart. They've been with us for donkey's years, we would never dream of getting rid of them as they are more like old friends than clothes.

I want you to picture those items. What is it about them that you like so much, is it the colour, the cut or maybe the print? When you wear it how does it make you feel?

Finding this out is going to help so much. You'll begin to know what type of clothes you should include in your capsule wardrobe. Clothes that spark joy and positive emotions in us are the ones that have earnt their place in our wardrobes for sure.

Question 3- Who do I want to be and how would that person dress?

Do you want to be bold, vivacious and confident or perhaps you like the idea of yourself being understated, sophisticated and classy.

Create a mental picture of that person you’d like to be, think about every aspect. Then focus on what clothes that person may wear. Then when you start creating your capsule wardrobe keep that image in mind.

So that's it! Your very first step to a capsule wardrobe and it was super quick and simple. Keeping following ever week to see what the next steps are..spoiler alert, next week we are going to talk about body shape and colouring. See you then!
